History
Several community organizers joined together in the summer of 2008, to strengthen advocacy efforts for substance abuse prevention programs in Virginia. This represented large and small, rural and urban communities. Their primary purpose was to combine their ideas, strengths, experience, compassion, and enthusiasm to create a single organization committed to promoting the prevention and reduction of the effects of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. The result is CCOVA.
Working with partners at the local, state and national level, CCOVA has already had an impact on federal funding for drug courts, increasing awareness of the positive impact of organized prevention programs in local communities and organizing to with purpose of reducing the life altering impact of alcohol and other drugs.
If you are a member of a prevention coalition that is not part of CCOVA, please contact us right away or visit our membership page to learn more.
CCOVA is in the process of obtaining 501(c)3 status and developing its founding board of directors.
